The sun has been out for quite a few days in April, with one or two temperatures climbing to 21c in my part of the country. It certainly was a big bonus, however the evenings remained on the whole, a bit chilly. With the winds changing from mainly Westerlies at the beginning of the month, to North East mid way through, was the signal to speed up the arrival of our summer summer migrants to the UK.
At Moor Green, it was good to see the return of LITTLE RINGED PLOVER, SWALLOW, HOUSE and SAND MARTIN, most of the more common WARBLERS and COMMON TERNS. The BLACK-HEADED GULL colony at Tern Island is in full breeding swing with the pair of returning OYSTERCATCHERS nesting right in the middle of them. They successfully raised a brood of four last year, so fingers crossed for another success this year.
