Has been a bit slow, to say the least. Wind and weather hasn't favoured our summer visitors just yet, with only dribs and drabs coming through, hopefully this will pick up in the coming weeks.
At Moor Green, BLACK HEADED GULLS have now taken over Tern Island in readiness for breeding. The pair of OYSTERCATCHER have returned to the island, where they successfully raised their brood for the first time last year. Most of the wildfowl have now departed to their breeding grounds, leaving behind a few TEAL and SHOVELER.
CHIFFCHAFF have been seen in decent numbers, most of them in full song.
On the 10th, March, I went to an unspecified site, to try to get some photos of LITTLE OWL. I had been there before, but was not completely happy with the one photo that I had. This time I did manage some pics that I was happier with.
On the 18th March, I went to Keyhaven/Pennington. It was a lovely sunny day, with very little wind, perfect. Three CETTI'S WARBLER were seen and heard, as well as nine CHIFFCHAFF, some singing, others feeding. A male and female WHEATEAR were near the seafront, the male looking in tip top condition. A WHIMBREL was busy feeding in the low tide mud and seven RUFF were scattered here and there in different lagoons. One RUFF in particular was very obliging, photographic wise and came quite close to where I was standing, not bothered at all by my presence.
