Spain

I have recently returned from a family holiday in Spain, but managed to get away on a couple of occasions for a spot of birding, which was for a few hours in the morning, as it was too hot to be out in the afternoon.
My first  visit was to see a previously visited  breeding colony of MONK PARAKEET. Their numbers had increased over the last two years and made an attractive sight as they noisily flew around their nest site. From there I went to a sewage farm, where in the past, I had seen some good birds. On this occasion however, there were very few birds to be seen. The reason for this was because the local authority are erecting a large building next to the treatment works boundary fence and the construction noise had driven the birds away, ah well.
My second outing was to San Pedro Del Pinatar, a large reserve consisting of mainly salt water lagoons. This was my first visit here which I thoroughly enjoyed. Birds seen were GREATER FLAMINGO in good numbers, HOOPOE, SARDINIAN WARBLER, LITTLE and COMMON TERN, SLENDER BILLED GULL, SWALLOW, YELLOW LEGGED GULL, BLACK NECKED GREBE (20+), AVOCET, BLK TAILED GODWIT, REED WARBLER, TURNSTONE, RUFF, WOOD SANDPIPER, DUNLIN and BLACK WINGED STILT.
During the course of the holiday, the following birds were seen around the area of the villa where we were staying, BEE-EATER, COMMON AND PALLID SWIFT, AUDOUINS and LITTLE GULL, YELLOW WAGTAIL and SPOTLESS STARLING.
Since coming back home, it hasn't stopped raining, so fingers crossed for some dry weather in the next week or so.

Hi, I'm Roger Milligan. I have been interested in birds since I was a boy growing up in south east London, which was a long time ago. I now live in Farnborough, Hampshire.
