At the beginning of August, whilst on a family holiday at Brixham, Devon, I went on a short sea trip to try and spot some sea birds. Weather wise it was overcast with light cloud, but visibility was good.
As luck would have it I saw, fourteen adult and juvenile Gannets, diving for fish, Corys, Great, Balearic and Manx Shearwater, two Storm Petrel, Fulmar and fifteen Kittiwake, a very good day.
At Moor Green Lakes, migrants have started to pass through, greatly helped by the water level being lowered in an area known as East Fen , making it much more attractive to migrant waders.
On the 14th, a Wood Sandpiper was at East Fen, where it stayed for a few days. On the same day, a very smart female Wheatear was seen at the main lake, whilst nearby were four Whitethroat, who were all in the same small bush.
On the 28th, at East Fen were, four Green Sandpiper, one Common Sandpiper, four juvenile Little Ringed Plovers and a Dunlin.
At the main lake, near the same bushes as the Whitethroats occupied were, two Sedge Warblers and two Whinchat.
