The overwintering female Goldeneye is still at the reserve and probably will be for a few more weeks.
During the month I saw my first Lesser Redpoll of the winter, they have been very hard to find on the reserve along with Siskin.
Common Gull numbers have increased, with fifty one being the highest count during daylight hours, with probably a lot more at the roost during the night.
Two male Red Crested Pochard have stayed at Fleethill Farm, Berkshire for the last two weeks and very handsome ducks they are.
So far, this winter has been recorded officially as being mild, as is the continent, which explains why the duck numbers and other bird species which normally visit during the winter are not in the UK.
On the flip side of this is that eleven Swallows, one of our most iconic summer visitors, have overwintered in the south west of the country.
With global warming, more and more of our summer birds won't bother to migrate but stay here if their food source is available.
